Uniform - proposal

I am writing to inform you of our proposed modification to our school uniform from September 2017. We are asking current parents and students their views on the changes which we are proposing. We firmly believe that uniform has a direct impact on standards and can:

• Create a clear sense of identity, community and school pride
• Support a focus on learning and the highest standards
• Allow easy identification inside and outside school
• Support health and safety requirements

The changes that we are proposing will provide a smarter uniform, comfortable for all groups of students, hard wearing and will offer parents an affordable choice. We do understand the expense involved in buying a new school uniform and we have taken steps to ensure that the transition to a possible new school uniform is affordable for all families and offers value for money. Students are able to continue to wear most items of our current uniform, however, any new clothing purchased must be of the new style.

School ties: From September 2017 all students (boys and girls) will be required to wear a clip on school tie, which will identify, by a coloured stripe, the year group to which they belong. These will have to be purchased by all years 7,8,9 and 10. Year 11 girls will be provided with a current key stage 4 tie to match the year 11 boys, who may continue to wear their existing tie.

School shirts: White shirts/blouses with fastening top button to be worn by all students in all year groups. No logo required

School blazers: There are some minor changes to the school blazer, including maroon trim and full school badge. From September 2017 all students must wear a blazer.

• Current year 7, 8 and 9 students may continue to wear existing uniform until they need new style replacements
• We ask that all students in current year 10 purchase a new style blazer, but offer the opportunity of a buy back scheme whereby we will buy it back from you at the end of year 11, if it is in a reasonable condition. Further details will follow should this new uniform be adopted.

Our proposal is that the uniform will be:

Girls:
• School blazer
• White shirt/blouse with fastening top button
• Year group tie
• Black V Necked pullover (optional)
• Regulation black pleated skirt (to just above knee length) or regulation black tailored trousers
• Dark plain outdoor coat
• Plain black knee length socks and during the winter months, plain black opaque tights to be worn i.e. from October to April (optional all year round)
• Plain, black formal sturdy shoe, which can be polished (without logos/ flashes/ tabs/ ankle straps/ metal and different coloured trimmings). Trainers, trainer look shoes and canvas footwear are strictly not permitted under any circumstances irrespective of whether described as a ‘school shoe’ by retailers.

Boys:
• School blazer
• White shirt with fastening top button
• Year group tie
• Black V Necked pullover (optional)
• Black tailored trousers (not denim, slim or skinny fit)
• Plain black socks
• Dark plain outdoor coat
• Plain, black formal sturdy shoe, which can be polished (without logos/ flashes/ tabs/ ankle straps/ metal and different coloured trimmings). Trainers, trainer look shoes and canvas footwear are strictly not permitted under any circumstances irrespective of whether described as a ‘school shoe’ by retailers

There will be no change to the sports uniform apart from a change in logo on any new items purchased.

We would like to thank you for your support in helping us to make this change a success. If you wish to express any views on the new arrangements we would welcome your comments by email to consultation@rbhs.co.uk by 31st March 2017.

Yours faithfully
