Smartphone Technology

We have been successful in an application to be the base for the new APPs developer project partially funded by the Arts Council.  The project will use emerging technologies to create a new mobile application for smartphones or ipods.  Students will work with a team of Project Managers and Artists from “Let’s Go Global” to develop a new way of using these technologies.  This project will be used as the basis for future projects, opening the door for all students to develop these cutting edge skills.

ICT Student of the Week

As part of the schools policy on promoting positive engagement with learning, the ICT department has started a new initiative this year called “Students of the Week” for Key Stage 3.  A trophy is awarded to the winners each week.  It is important all students are aware that nominations are made by their ICT teacher for a range of reasons, outstanding work, positive contributions and many other positive attributes.   Year 7 have been leading the way so far this year but Year 8 is catching up!

University Maths Challenge

Eight G.C.S.E. students were invited to a Mathematics Enrichment Day at the University of Manchester, to participate in lectures led by University professors. The aim was to develop and challenge their mathematical skills. The group completed practical examples as part of the lectures with other pupils from schools within the Bolton vicinity.  The university also provided talks on the benefits of studying Mathematics at A-Level and degree level, and also the range of careers available. University students provided a guided tour of the campus, including the world famous library, which was enjoyed by all. The students also had the opportunity to eat amongst the university students in the cafeteria which enabled them to experience real life at a university.
