Key Stage 3, GCSE & A-Level Information

In Year 7 pupils are taught Rave within Humanities. Pupils study about the development of religion and explore ultimate questions. Students also study elements of the life and teaching of Jesus, the celebration of key festivals and the importance of the church as a community. Also, pupils study some elements of the religion of Judaism.

In Year 8 pupils explore the three main religions of Christianity, Islam & Hinduism for one period per week, in mixed ability form groups. The course covers the key beliefs and practises of these three major world religions.

In Year 9 pupils are taught a number of Units on Religious Ethics & Philosophy including: Crime & Punishment; Belief in God; & Conflict, Peace & Reconciliation. These Units are taught from a predominantly Christian Perspective. Pupils are taught for one period per week in mixed ability form groups. 

The course undertaken at KS4 is the Edexcel GCSE in RS (2RS01). The units studied include: Unit 2 (5RS02) Religion & life based on a study of Christianity and Unit 11 (5RS11) Islam.

The course undertaken at Key Stage 5 is the Edexcel GCE in RS:

AS (8RS01): The units studied include: Unit 1: Foundations (6RS01): (A) Philosophy of Religion (B) Ethics. Unit 2: Investigations (6RS02) (C) the Study of Ethics

A2 (9RS01): The units studied include: Unit 3: Developments (6RS01): (A) Philosophy of Religion (B) Ethics. Unit 4: Implications (6RS04) Question 2: Ethics
