Course Information


Key Stage 3 (ACCESS)

At Key Stage 3, Students study for the John Muir Discovery Award. This requires students to undertake 30 hours in an outdoor environment learning about Access and Conservation. To meet the requirements of the Award, students are required to:

  • Discover
  • Explore
  • Conserve
  • Share


This is done through a variety of activities including climbing, hill walking, kayaking and conservation projects.


Key Stage 4

At Key Stage 4, Students in Year 10 can study for the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Sport and the BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Sport.

Students currently in Year 11 study for the BTEC First Certificate in Sport with outdoor education as part of their practical assessment.

This is done through a variety of activities including climbing, hill walking, kayaking, fitness and a first aid award. Students can achieve National Governing Body Awards for the relevant activities.

Year 11 core PE participate in all of the above awards and the Young Orienteering Leaders Award.
