Welcome to the POWERWAVE Skills Centre

The POWERWAVE Skills Centre offers a state of the art and innovative vocational provision in Construction, Joinery and other built environment trades for young people.

This is a prestigious environment in the heart of Blackrod, in premises designed to meet the needs of the curriculum which is taught there and the individual students.

We have a team of dedicated professionals to support the vocational, academic and social development of the young people who access the Centre from across Bolton.

Students who study at the centre achieve BTEC and City and Guilds Qualifications and each student is given a personal tutor with whom they can work.

The Centre offers individuals the skills to enable them to move into further vocational qualifications or careers in vocational areas. All of the courses are practical but are underpinned by the theoretical knowledge required by the Construction Industry today.

We deliver formal learning experiences, not only in Brickwork and Joinery but also in tiling, flooring, plastering and health and safety. This includes:

- Development of the Built Environment

- Construction Technology and Design

- Construction Materials and Processes

- Introducing Brickwork

- Exploring Brickwork

- Introducing Carpentry and Joinery

All students receive extensive industrial experience with the opportunity to secure a place on our 'Excellence in Industry Scheme', an established programme in which companies work closely with and support in the delivery of vocational care.  This programme forms the basis of the employer links and has a proven track record of raising attainment and employment statistics.  the 'Excellence in Industry' scheme represents a perfect partnership of vocational study, enterprise and work related learning experiences.

We also work with Adult Learners to help them to develop skills in this area, running regular courses with the Local Authority and other providers.
