GCSE & A-Level Information

GCSE Health & Social Care

This course provides the opportunity for learners to achieve a double award in health and social care. This means this course is worth two GCSE’s. During the course you will study 4 units which look at: Health Social Care & Early Years Provision; Understanding Personal Development and Relationships; Promoting Health & Wellbeing; Safeguarding & Protecting Individuals. Throughout the course you will be involved in project work. A lot of learning is done by carrying out research and listening to outside speakers.

GCSE Child Development

This is an exciting course which looks at all aspects of Child Development from conception to the time a child reaches 8 years of age. This involves studying topics such as: planning a family; parenting; pre-conceptual care; pregnancy; birth; post-natal care of mother and her newborn; physical, intellectual, emotional and social development; play; nutrition; aspects of family life and so on.

GCE AS/A2 Health & Social Care

During the AS course you will learn about human growth and development including child development and lifestyle factors affecting development; Communication & values including managing group situations;  Positive care environments including equality in care and removing barriers. During the A2 course you study: Meeting individual needs; Promoting Health & Wellbeing; Investigating Disease. This course is assessed through examinations and coursework, coursework accounts for 60% of the final grade.

BTEC National Extended Diploma Health & Social Care

Over the two years you will cover 18 units, 9 in each year. Some of the units are core (compulsory modules) whilst some are specialist units. Core Units include: Developing effective communication; Equality, diversity & human rights; Health & Safety; Development through life stages; Fundamentals of anatomy & physiology; Personal & professional development; Sociological perspectives; Psychological perspectives. Specialist Units may include: Complementary therapies; Health psychology; Public health; caring for Children and so on.
