Welcome to the 6th Form
Rivington and Blackrod Sixth Form is fully committed to the principle that every student who enters the sixth form can achieve. We work with students at an individual level in order that this happens – in terms of providing a suitable curriculum, ensuring teaching is always good, and tracking progress to identify under performance.
Our prime commitment is to ensure that students leave the sixth form with the best academic results they can. All of our efforts and energies are directed towards supporting this goal. Our results have steadily improved in recent years, and although there was a small dip in 2009 the trend is still strongly upwards. This improvement will be further strengthened as the results of additional BTEC courses feed in, in summer 2010.
We offer a range of facilities which help young people to broaden their experience post 16 and help them to develop a strong personal profile. These include the availability of pastoral support and careers guidance, along with organised and informal sports and community activities including the Duke of Edinburgh awards, outdoor education facilities, sign language courses, charitable fundraising and business enterprise. We have two football teams, a netball team and a hockey team playing each wednesday afternoon in the North West Colleges League. All students have the chance to participate on a European and International trip to develop their cultural knowledge. Our Gambia residential has run for nineteen years, and is regularly described as 'life changing'.
Whichever routes students choose in year 12, they can be sure that they will benefit from our true belief that everybody can achieve, each student is valued as an individual, and that staff will work with students to achieve their own personal goals.
Furthermore, in partnership with other schools, colleges and training providers in Bolton West we are also able to offer a wide range of vocational qualifications.
