I would like to personally welcome you to Rivington and Blackrod High School and Sixth Form. We provide an excellent education in all areas of the curriculum and learning opportunities which help students to recognise their unique qualities, develop their skills and ambitions and achieve their aims in the rapidly changing technological world of today.
Rivington and Blackrod High School is a Church of England voluntary controlled 11-18 High School founded in 1566 by the Bishop of Durham. The school has held an important place in this community for centuries, many of our students have parents and grandparents who themselves were educated here.
We want every young person to succeed, knowing and feeling that they matter. We provide the very best care, guidance and support to ensure that they feel safe and can grow as successful learners and caring citizens. We give all students the power to take control, manage and direct their own learning and develop their future careers and aspirations.
Positive relationships are very important to us at Rivington and Blackrod High School and we do all that we can to foster an environment in which they can grow and flourish. At Rivington and Blackrod High School we offer:
- High expectations
- Traditional values
- Outstanding pastoral care for all
- A specialist and experienced staff
- A strong commitment to enrichment activities
- A broad and balanced curriculum meeting the needs of each individual student
To equip our young people with the skills that they will need in their future career, we constantly look ahead to ensure that we remain at the forefront of educational developments. Employers, colleges and universities recognise our students as having the vision, knowledge, skills and attitude to become high achieving and positive members of our community.
Our Aims
Community:
We play a key role in local, national and international communities, preparing our students to be citizens of the future, empowering them with the ambition, skills and power to become high achieving and positive members of our community. This brings with it many responsibilities and a wide range of opportunities and we ensure that our school facilities are accessible, playing our role in developing a fully cohesive and successful community.
Standards:
We aim for the highest possible standards in all aspects of school life including results, relationships, skill acquisition, behaviour and the development of the learning environment.
Inclusion:
We are committed to meeting the learning needs, ambitions and aspirations of ALL students, staff and other members of our learning community.
The school tirelessly investigates new modes of delivery for all courses and our status as a School Direct centre, training student teachers, has allowed us to push out the boundaries further, and raise aspiration levels even higher for all of our students. For the latest news, please read our newsletter which is available via the newsletters link to the left of this page.
I would be delighted to invite you to visit our school and look forward to meeting you.
