Course contact: Mr W Carter - wcarter@rbhs.co.uk

Specification: Level 2

Course Outline

Level 2 IT will enable you to learn about the different design tools that can be used, the principles of human computer interfaces and the use of data and testing when creating IT solutions or products. You will develop the skills to plan and design a spreadsheet solution to meet a client’s requirements. You will develop the skills to design, create, test and review a spreadsheet model.

Finally, you will develop the knowledge and skills relating to the purpose, use and types of Augmented Reality (AR) in different contexts and how it is used on different digital devices. You will develop the skills to design, create, test and review an AR model prototype.

GCSE Computer Science will complement this course.

What will I study?

In Level 2 IT, you will study three units:

  • Unit 1: IT in the digital world - In this unit, you will learn the theoretical knowledge and understanding to apply design tools for applications, principles of human computer interfaces and the use of data and testing in different contexts when creating IT solutions or products.
  • Unit 2: Data manipulation using spreadsheets - In this unit, you will learn the skills to plan and design a spreadsheet solution to meet client requirements. You will be able to use a range of tools and techniques to create a spreadsheet solution based on their design, which you will test.
  • Unit 3: Using augmented reality to present information - In this unit, you will learn the purpose, use and types of augmented reality (AR) in different contexts and how they are used on different digital devices. You will develop the skills to design and create an AR model prototype utilising a range of tools and techniques.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed in three units:

  • Unit 1: IT in the digital world will be a mandatory written paper set by OCR
  • Unit 2: Data manipulation using spreadsheets will be an internally centre-assessed piece of course work.
  • Unit 3: using augmented reality to present information will be the second internally centre-assessed piece of coursework.

What could I do afterwards?

Sixth form study is a natural progression and at Rivington and Blackrod Sixth Form, we offer both A-level Computing and BTEC Level 3 ICT.
