Level 2 Sport Studies

Course Outline: Mr A Brown - abrown@rbhs.co.uk

Specification: Level 2

Course Outline

Sport Studies can help you in your first steps towards a sporting career. You will learn and develop essential skills such as leadership, analysis, and the organisation of sports sessions whilst understanding current sports trends.

What will I study?

Students will be studying theory components such as contemporary studies in sport relating to; participation levels and barriers, promotion of values and ethical behaviour, the role of high-profile sporting events, the role of national governing bodies and how technology is used within the sport. In another unit, students will learn how to develop their skills as both a performer in two different sporting activities and as a leader in one activity – this makes up the practical element of the course.

The theory elements form the core strand of the course, and the practical component forms a much smaller part of the course.

This course is 75% coursework based and 25% practical. Lessons per week are normally based in computer rooms and at times practically.

How will I be assessed?

Most student work is assessed internally through coursework assignments completed on the computer. One external assessment is marked by the examination board and contributes to 25% of a student’s final mark.

The current units you will be taught include:

  • Contemporary issues in sport (examination)
  • Performance and leadership in sports activities (practical and coursework)
  • Increasing awareness of outdoor and adventurous activities (coursework)

What could I do afterwards?

Level 2 Sport provides a good foundation for learners in post-16 education or entry-level jobs within the sports sector.

This course can lead to a career in Sports Leadership (teaching and coaching), Officiating (refereeing and umpiring), Fitness Training, Performance Analysis and many more.
