SIAMS Inspection Rating Good - May 2023
Ofsted
Rivington and Blackrod High School and Sixth Form had a full Section 5 Ofsted inspection on 14th and 15th June, 2023.
The school received a judgement of Good across all areas. This is thoroughly well deserved, and sincere thanks go to all students, staff, parents and Governors for supporting the school in achieving this.
The report contains lots of positive information about our school. We are really pleased that the hard work over the years is having a positive impact on the students and their academic and personal development.
We are delighted that the inspection team recognised the improvements that had been made to the school over the recent years through the hard work of leaders at all levels, grading Leadership and Management as ‘Good’.
We were also praised for our strong emphasis on developing the whole child through our work with the house system, our careers programme and our extensive extra-curricular timetable and therefore, Personal Development was also judged to be ‘Good’.
Our Sixth Form continues to be a strength of the school, and it was also graded as ‘Good’, which we will continue to grow and build upon.

SIAMS - The Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools
The School is celebrating a ‘Good’ report following its Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) on 10th May 2023.
The inspector has reported:
"The associated values of respect, belonging, honesty and support are understood in the Christian context of humility, love, honour and God-given strength. This inspires opportunities for all. Leaders, including governors, ensure that each member of this large community is known as a unique individual. They determine, through policy and practice, that there is a holistic approach to the education and support of students. This enables students to succeed in their academic and personal development"
"Relationships at all levels are a palpable strength of the community. The school’s pastoral, curriculum and extra-curricular provision is rich and broad. It supports students of all ages and abilities in the pursuit of their dreams."
"The impact of the school’s Christian vision is such that students know that they belong and are confident to express their personal identity. They appreciate and promote the school’s respectful culture."
"Impressive extra-curricular provision, outlined in the ‘Rivi 50’ charter, offers something for everyone. School leaders remove barriers to students engaging with exciting extra opportunities so that all can gain a well-rounded school experience. Sport and the arts support students’ talents. The popular Duke of Edinburgh award scheme is one of the many ways that students develop leadership skills. It is expanding horizons, building personal resilience and shaping characters."
We are incredibly proud of our Christian ethos at Rivington & Blackrod High School and how our values are at the heart of every decision we make. As a community, we are delighted that our hard work has been acknowledged by the inspector in her report. Our initiatives, such as our Rivi 50 Charter, continue to drive the success of the school and we are pleased that the inspector recognised these, alongside a curriculum that is designed to ensure the rounded development of the whole child.
