Subject Overview:

The RBHS Physical Education Department is committed to creating an environment that encourages students to develop their understanding of the part that exercise and physical activity has on their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. We aim to challenge each pupil to demonstrate their full potential. We recognise the needs of all pupils and strive to provide ample opportunities centred on key knowledge and skills that allow pupils to feel a sense of achievement through self-belief, competition, leadership and performance.

RBHS PE thrives upon the knowledge that our students have the skills to leave us as lifelong participators in exercise and physical activity, having been exposed to a broad range of sport and exercise opportunities within our curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities.

We believe a knowledge of sport, exercise and the human body allows students to gain an understanding of how to keep themselves well, safe and healthy now and for generations to come.

We provide a curriculum that is broad and balanced, following each strand of the National Curriculum. This has been created with consideration of our RBHS demographic, pupil voice and post 16 destinations.

 Key Stage 3 Overview:

Pupils should build on and embed the physical development and skills learned in key stages 1 and 2, become more competent, confident and expert in their techniques, and apply them across different sports and physical activities. They should understand what makes a performance effective and how to apply these principles to their own and others’ work. They should develop the confidence and interest to get involved in exercise, sports and activities out of school and in later life, and understand and apply the long-term health benefits of physical activity.

Key Stage 4 Overview:

Pupils should tackle complex and demanding physical activities. They should get involved in a range of activities that develops personal fitness and promotes an active, healthy lifestyle.

Pupils can follow two pathways for academic Physical Education. These being GCSE PE and Sport Studies Cambridge National

Key Stage 5 Overview:

Pupils should continue their love for Physical Education and choose to develop their understanding of physical exercise and sport. They can choose to do these via our A Level PE route or our Level 3 Cambridge Technical in Sport and Physical Activity.
