Personal Statement - James Beardsworth

I possess the skills, experience and behaviours outlined in the nomination letter. In my current role I work across the North-West region building and forging links with community organisations and Local Authorities, including here in Bolton. To build the relationships I have had to deliver numerous presentations to the different organisations marketing our business and programme. To ensure I am speaking to the right organisations I analysed data from a range of sources, including Government, Third Sector and Local Authority. From this data I have been able to coordinate my team to achieve the referrals needed to meet the contract profile.

As a family we have 2 children attending RBHS, my partners daughter and my daughter. As such I am passionate about ensuring they, and everyone else, get the most out of their time at RBHS. I see myself very much as a problem solver and someone who can see the bigger picture of how things can be improved for the benefit of everyone. I have managed an apprenticeship department and have a teaching background, so education is a something close to my heart. I believe I can bring innovation, creativity to make a positive contribution to this role.

Personal Statement – Andrew Bishop

I am currently the Assistant Chief Executive of The Birtenshaw Group.

I oversee three schools, a college and 14 children's homes and adult tenancies for young people and adults with special education needs and disabilities.

Previous to this I was a professional football player and football manager.

I have a good knowledge of Ofsted, Risk Assessments and strategic planning.

I have overseen transitions and strategies of the organisation for the past three years and believe I would be able to support both Teachers, School and Governors moving forward.

Personal Statement – Scott Hope

My name is Scott Hope and I am a husband and father of 2. My youngest started at RBHS in September 2023 and my eldest has just completed a level 3 diploma in applied science at Cardinal Newman College. I spend most of my spare time poolside with the local community swim club where I am chairperson and also team manager. I am involved in the day to day running of the club, liaising with the local community and members of the public and promoting health and fitness amongst young people and holding/attending committee meetings and AGMs. I feel all these skills could be transferred to assist me on the governing team should I be appointed.

When I am not poolside I can be found working in facilities management within the NHS sector where I feel I have gained skills and experience that would assist me in being part of the governing team at RBHS. I have over 10 years of experience within the facilities management sector starting off as a plumber and now as an estates officer within a large NHS trust.

Personal Statement - Gary Merritt for re-election

As a former student, and now parent of two children at RBHS, I am grateful for the opportunities the school gave me, including a career as a science teacher. Teaching in mainstream and Alternative Provision schools, I have acquired extensive knowledge in Education, and the challenges our children face, particularly those with additional needs.

During my first term as a parent governor, I developed positive relationships with staff and Governors. My professionalism and eye for detail meant that I was able to hold school leaders to account, whilst offering advice and support, to drive continued improvement, and secure the best outcomes for our pupils.

As Behaviour and Attitudes Link Governor, I consistently attended, and participated during meetings. I am proud to have served during such a transformative period for the school, as evidenced in the last Ofsted inspection. I now wish to offer my knowledge and experience, to ensure the school continues to develop, particularly in relation to pupil attitudes and well-being.

As a Horwich resident, I am acutely aware of the role the school plays in our community, and in preparing our children to become healthy, happy, and successful adults. I now hope to continue my work as parent governor.
