Curriculum

We have a wide range of courses available at Rivington and Blackrod Sixth Form which help our students to go on to either study at University or College or possible employment. Choosing subjects to study at either A-Level or at Level 3 BTEC is difficult, and we would encourage all students to talk to us throughout the application process. :

If you are a student who is thinking of applying for a place at one of the top (Russell Group) universities, you should give serious consideration to ensuring your overall A-Level package is made up of predominantly “Facilitating Subjects”. The Facilitating Subjects are specifically;

• English Literature
• English Language
• Mathematics
• Further Maths
• Biology
• Chemistry
• Physics
• History
• Geography
• French

The subjects available to study are listed below. All Year 11 students, whether from Rivington and Blackrod High School or elsewhere, who wish to enter our Sixth Form, will be provided with advice and guidance to help them with their choices.

All entrants must have five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above and at least Grade 5 (often Grade 6) in the subjects they wish to study at A-Level.
