Course Outline
GCSE Photography is a lively course that aims to develop the ability to see things in a new and interesting way, translating visual ideas into successful outcomes using a camera. Students will learn how to use compact and professional DSLR cameras and edit photographs using Adobe Photoshop and other Creative Suite software during the course.
What will I study?
Students will learn how to use a DSLR camera manually and a wide range of both technical and creative photography skills. The course will involve researching various photographers from different themes such as portraiture and architecture. Learning will be through a combination of theory, practical and digital lessons and complete independent practical and research work.
How will I be assessed?
Students GCSE work will be marked against the four assessment objectives set by AQA examination board. Over the two years, you will receive formative and summative feedback. The weighting of the course is 60% coursework and 40% is externally assessed examination.
AO1: Develop ideas through investigations, demonstrating a critical understanding of sources
AO2: Refine work by exploring ideas, selecting and experimenting with appropriate media, materials, techniques and processes
AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions as work progresses
AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and demonstrates an understanding of visual language
What could I do afterwards?
This qualification can lead to the A-level Photography course, a BTEC Level 3 or a job in the art and design industry.
The course will develop creativity, attention to detail and problem-solving skills, preparing students for future learning in a wide range of subjects.
