Course Outline

Social Science is the scientific study of human behaviour within society. It includes many aspects of human behaviour such as human development, criminality, health, social behaviour and mental processes. Child development refers to the sequence of physical, language, thought, and emotional changes that occur in an child from birth to the beginning of adulthood.

What will I study?

The first topic all Social Science study is Developmental Psychology, by investigating why it is so important that we know how humans develop.

Other topics that students may learn about during the course of their studies may include: memory, the brain and neuropsychology, social influence, criminal psycholofy, sleep and dreaming, development and wellbeing of 0-5 year olds and physical, intellectual, emotional and social development. The course also prepares you for a placement in a variety of childcare settings.

How will I be assessed?

GCSE Psychology students will sit three external exams at the end of Year 11.

On the Level 2 CACHE course , students will complete two coursework units and sit one external exam.

What could I do afterwards?

This qualification can lead to the A-level Photography course, a BTEC level 3 or a job in the art and design industry.

The course will develop your creative, thinking, communication and teamwork skills, preparing you for future learning in a wide range of subjects. Learning through culture and the arts leads to creative thinking, confidence and problem solving.
